Year Long - Critical Race Theory Course (22-23 SY)
INNOVATING FOR EQUITY: The course is designed for participants to explore the 5 tenets of Critical Race Theory as a framework to examine race and racism in education. Participants will explore CRT through application in their roles as educators, parents, administrators, board members, and other organizational leaders. All participants will develop a Theory of Action to address an identified equity challenge in their school or organization. During the final session in June, participants will share their learning journey and the results from their Theory of Action.
Each session, a 2-hour virtual meeting, will occur from 4:30-6:30 PM Pacific Standard Time. Classes will be held on every second Wednesday of the month: August 10, September 7, October 12, November 9, December 7, January 11, February 8, March 8, April 12, May 10, and June 7.
Who is encouraged to attend: Parents, Students, Teachers, Counselors, Social Workers, Deans, Paraeducators, Administrators, Board Members, and any organization working within education.
Outcomes:
* Explore Critical Race Theory and its connection to outcomes for BIPOC communities
* Explore the role law plays in defining racial segregation in schools
* Develop a deeper understanding of the sociopolitical context of instruction in schools
* Design a Theory of Change Project to implement over the course of the year
* Do a final presentation: share your Theory of Change Project experience and learning from the year
Cost: $700 per person

Anti-Racist Discipline: You Are The One Students Have Been Waiting For
INNOVATING FOR EQUITY: The workshop will use the Critical Race Theory as a framework to understand discipline in schools. Participants will explore anti-racist alternatives to traditional responses to student behavior. Additionally, participants will explore ways to build authentic relationships with children. This virtual workshop is designed to support parents, teachers, and teams responsible for implementing discipline and designing policies implemented at schools sites. The support is designed to humanize children, to interrupt the "school to prison" pipeline, decrease disproportionality, and increase in-class instruction time for all students.
Outcomes:
* Learn elements of Critical Race Theory to support mindset shift for adults
* Examine anti-racist alternative response to student behavior
* Explore strategies to build relationships with students
* Begin to design anti-racist discipline practices for your school site
Cost: $600 per person
